Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 12 -- Week 2
SATURDAY, OCT. 27, 2007 – WAVELAND, MA
From Cindy Lombardo, W2W Co-chair
What a beautiful weather day in Waveland. Just the right temperature to work in. Everyone worked hard today so the crews can get a day of rest tomorrow.
All the houses are almost complete and we are on schedule for the roofers and siding crew. We quit this afternoon at 4 pm to tour south of the tracks with our good friend, Kathy Pinn. She gave us a tour of Coleman Avenue and described to everyone about Katrina. She was amazed at the rebuilding going on, but we saw so much devastation. Streets with debris still piled high. We did see a few neighborhoods with almost every house rebuilt. It gave her hope, which she transmitted to the crews. We decided to take a couple of hours every week to tour and to have Kathy or someone come to the work site at lunch time to talk and answer questions.
Kenny Cunningham, Kendra and Kelsey helped pick up the Taranto site. Ken and I went to a Pop Warner-type football game tonight to speak to Mayor Longo. His entire family was there and they are staying at our hotel. The Longo's just received a MEMA cottage, moved in and a pipe burst. It is unreal as Marci described their ordeal. We are trying to find a way to help them accelerate their own rebuilding effort. We committed to help one of the neighbors on Combel St. re-roof his new home.
Thanks for all your continued support.
Congratulations to the Red Sox on their Game 3 win.
