Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 87 -- Week 13

THURSDAY, JAN. 10, 2008 – WAVELAND, MA

Hi everyone,
Today was incredible! We had 55 people working on our sites this morning. The floor installers finished 3 houses on Combel and by noon were finished on Combel. 2 installers moved to Taranto St. to begin work preparing the floors there. The painters finished all of Combel and will be complete on Taranto tomorrow which will allow the floors to be completed. The stone arrived for the driveways on Maple and Taranato and by the end of the day were totally done. The plumbing is finished on Combel. We have running water in 3 homes and all 8 toilets work. What a pleasure it will be not to use the port-a-lets!!!

Our incredible volunteers, M.C, and Michael, Ali and Nick, Kit and Katie began putting together the 2 swingsets--one for Taranto and one on Combel. Then the heavens opened up and the Mississippi mud began to rise. It was wet! However, in between the storms the volunteers continued to work. They were so diligent. It was fun watching the two teams, led by our carpenters read the instructions on how to install the ladders. We will finish by tomorrow!

Swing Set Assembly

Swing Set: Some Assembly Required!

Our families continue to help. Wally was the chief bot identifier with the swingsets. Rose managed to make coffee despite our primitive set ups. The trailers are gone, supplies are scattered, but everyone is still focussed on completing their work. Lunch arrived during the deluge and everyone wants Suzanne's potato salad recipe. Thanks to everyone who has helped Mission to Mississippi so far. It is gratifying to see what Americans helping Americans can do.

Oh, I almost forgot--Jimmy, Bob and I went to Judith Bradford's house to repair her door and look at a few punch list items she has. Judith and her family have been friends of W2W from the start and the Bradfords always offer to host us. We also helped an associate at the hotel who needed minor repairs. We continue to pay it forward.

Thank you again
Cindy
