Ms. Hazel's House Is Done
Ms. Hazel Moves Back Into Her House
After 18 Months in a FEMA Trailer
JP Group Helps W2W Finish the Rebuilding
March 5 – The Wayland to Waveland (W2W) Hurricane Katrina Relief group is thrilled to announce that Ms. Hazel Tracey is back in her house!
|
She spent her first night back in her house Wednesday after her new bed is delivered.
Her house was finished in the past few weeks by Wayland to Waveland in conjunction with a group of volunteers from Jamaica Plain. One of the JP volunteers, 25-year-old Jeremy Parker, has stayed on site an extra week to attack the punch list of items at Ms. Hazels. He did a lot of carpentry work. He sanded and stained the kitchen cabinets, hung all hardware in the bathrooms, checked that the HVAC system worked, hung all the blinds, installed closet poles, etc. His contribution was tremendous. He also was the person who followed through and picked up the final Occupancy Permit. In addition, he also helped Melanie hang, sand, stain her doors!
Wayland to Waveland is “registering” Ms. Hazel at Bed, Bath & Beyond (see box above) in Framingham for bed, bath and small kitchen items for anyone who would like to contribute a gift! Just ask about Ms. Hazel Tracey of Waveland, MS.
The young man from Jamaica Plain also has been working on Ms. Melanie’s house to make it secure (installing doors and locks) so materials for the April trip can be delivered.

Ms. Hazel has moved back into her home after 18 months living in her FEMA trailer. Thanks to the work of a great crew of professional carpenters, electricians, masons and volunteers, work has progressed enough that Ms. Hazel can finally sleep under her own roof.
